Maigh Cuilinn Stars Shine Bright in 2024

As 2024 draws to a close, we celebrate a truly historic year for Maigh Cuilinn’s sporting heroes: Julie Ann Russell, Seán Kelly, and Ailbhe Davoren. Their achievements on the national stage have brought immense pride to our community.

Julie Ann Russell – A Year of Triumphs

Julie Ann’s 2024 was nothing short of exceptional. She played a key role in Galway United’s victory in the All-Island Cup, defeating Shamrock Rovers in the final. She also earned the prestigious Player of the Year award for her outstanding performances throughout the season. After a four-year absence, her triumphant return to the Irish national team saw her score crucial goals against England, France, and Georgia.

Julie Ann’s individual accolades are a testament to her incredible talent and dedication:

Seán etched his name into Maigh Cuilinn’s history books by captaining the Galway Senior Footballers to an unprecedented three consecutive Connacht Final titles in 2022, 2023, and 2024. His leadership and commitment to the maroon and white jersey have been an inspiration to all.

Ailbhe Davoren – A Star Performer

Ailbhe’s exceptional year saw her receive an All-Star award and play a crucial role in the Galway Ladies football team’s journey to a Connacht Final victory against Mayo. She also played a key role for her club, Kilmacud Crokes, as they reached the All-Ireland Club Final. Ailbhe’s dedication and skill have made her a role model for aspiring athletes.

The achievements of Julie Ann, Seán, and Ailbhe have brought immense pride to our parish. Their dedication, talent, and sportsmanship are an inspiration to us all. We are honoured to have these three stars represent Maigh Cuilinn on the national stage.
