What a day for Maigh Cuilinn! Our senior footballers have booked their place in the Galway Senior Football Championship final after a nail-biting victory over Tuam Stars in yesterday’s semi-final at Tuam Stadium.
The lads showed incredible grit and determination to overcome a tough Tuam Stars side, eventually winning by 1-10 to 0-10.
From the first whistle, it was clear this would be a battle. Tuam Stars came out with all guns blazing. But our lads stood firm, matching them score for score in a tense first half.
Despite some excellent scores from Tuam Stars’ Brian Mannion and a long-range effort from their goalkeeper, we went in level at the break thanks to Dessie Conneely’s accuracy from frees.
The second half was just as intense. Fionn McDonagh and Paul Kelly (who took over free-taking duties after Conneely unfortunately had to go off injured) kept us in the game with some crucial scores.
Tuam Stars brought on former Armagh star Jack Grugan, but we responded brilliantly. After Ger Davoren was unlucky not to score a goal, Neil Mulcahy popped up with a crucial goal to give us the lead.
The final minutes were tense, but we held our nerve to secure a famous victory.
This win marks our fourth county final appearance in five years – an incredible achievement! Now we face a rematch against Corofin, who we narrowly lost to in last year’s final.
We’re incredibly proud of the team’s performance yesterday. They showed true Maigh Cuilinn spirit, battling hard for every ball and never giving up.
Let’s get behind them and show our support as they prepare for the year’s biggest game!
